They say necessity is the mother of invention. Having hung out in the Coffee & Power Workclub for the last few months, I’d posit location is the long-lost uncle, or at least the smarter older sister, of invention
Here in the Workclub, there’s an extended family of creative, smart, and just plain interesting mobile workers who I’ve been able to meet while working on the Coffee & Power and Worklist projects.
The Coffee & Power Workclub, for those of you who haven’t visited, is a lovely coworking space in the center of downtown San Francisco. We’ve built it to be a casual yet professional cafe vibe, with lots of window seats, free coffee, and fast wifi. The Coffee & Power team works in the loft upstairs, and downstairs is open to walk-ins. We love having other mobile workers and entrepreneurs work alongside us! We’ve also used the space for several small entrepreneurial and tech related meet-ups.
If you’re wandering around San Francisco looking for a place to get some work done, we’d love for you to stop in and join us!

There’s a person I know of who I think would be considered a good writer, good enough to pay for certain kinds of writing, and I think they are skilled in digital graphics too. I believe they are located in New York. They has a serious medical problem, and are in need of money. i suggested CrowdSpring and similar sites. They didn’t respond with enthusiasm. It seems to me the Coffee and Power might be a good place for them to try to get jobs they can work around their illness. I think there might be work even for someone in New York city, and that their reputation in Second Life might even help them get jobs through Coffee and Power. Does that make any sense?
@Chuck – the best part of C&P is that as either a buyer or a seller, you set your own hours and your own pace. It’s incredibly flexible and utterly customizable. Hope your friend checks it out!
